The Launch with Sara de Freitas
Unfortunately we had lighting problems with the video we made of Sara speaking, so our summary of this event doesn't include footage of her [that's her to the left here], only a video of me talking about her below. But do watch till the end, so you see how much fun we had!
This was our first event in the 10-week Hotbed of Practical Ideas. We kicked off at 5pm, with 40 guests and Professor Sara de Freitas, Director of Research at the Serious Games Institute in Coventry - Fast Company’s ‘Most Influential Woman in Technology 2009-10’, as Opening Speaker. Sara wowed us with demos of serious games that aspire to solve world-scale problems. Among many studies she mentioned were projects by Playgen & TruSim and the ‘Interactive Trauma Trainer’ - a 3D simulation for medical staff learning to help in conflict zones, that caught everyone’s attention. The audience was truly inspired and asked Sara important questions about the pros and cons of gamifying learning in the future.
